The start date for Junior Chorus is still undetermined. No information has gone home yet. Thanks for being patient!
JUNIOR CHORUS (Fall Semester Only)
The East Wake Academy Junior Chorus is open to all third and fourth grade students. This is a non-auditioned group that is limited to 30 members. We meet once a week on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 - 4:10 through Christmas and perform one time at Winterfest. Typically, the Winterfest performance is a musical drama, complete with parts and costumes and props.
FALL 2014 EAST WAKE ACADEMY JUNIOR CHORUS
The purpose of the Junior Chorus is threefold: 1) To provide musical enrichment and enjoyment; 2) To develop performance skills through choral singing and drama; 3) To grow in character through cooperation and self-discipline.
Club Cost: TBA
Rehearsal Schedule: TBA
Extra Rehearsal Dates and Times: TBA
Performance: TBA
Expectations: A chorus is no different than a basketball team in terms of teamwork, commitment and consistency. Both groups practice on a regular basis in order to perform their best. I expect students and parents to regard membership in the Junior Chorus in this way - attendance at weekly practice is not optional. Students should miss no more than two practices. I know students are involved in dance, music lessons, sports, etc. and that emergencies can’t be helped. Make doctor and dentist appointments on a different day. Be committed from beginning to end.
Behavior: Participation in the Junior Chorus is voluntary; therefore, behaviors that disrupt practice will not be tolerated. If a student is repeatedly disruptive during practice, he/she will be asked to leave. That is, students will be instructed to call you to come pick them up immediately or they will be sent to WINGS ($10.00 charge will apply). If this is a consistent problem, students will be asked to not be part of chorus.
Donate or Volunteer: Donations are greatly appreciated! Costume coordinators, set designers, and rehearsal helpers are needed - a great way to get in volunteer hours!

EAGLE ENSEMBLE (Spring Semester Only)
The purpose of the Eagle Ensemble is threefold:
The information below about the Eagle Ensemble is what will be sent home around Christmas time in anticipation of the spring semester:
EAGLE ENSEMBLE (Meets ONLY in the spring semester)
The East Wake Academy Eagle Ensemble is a small 20 to 24-member group made up of select third and fourth grade students. The Ensemble will be singing, playing barred instruments (such as xylophones), and performing dramas at one performance in May. Membership in the group is by audition only and cuts will be made to keep the group small. This group meets each Thursday from January through May, from 3:00 - 4:10 in the afternoon.
The purpose of the Eagle Ensemble is threefold:
AUDITION INFORMATION:
If your student is interested in auditioning for this group, please send an e-mail to me at this address: [email protected] stating your preferred time. Audition times will be confirmed by e-mail.
Auditioning for the group does not mean automatic membership. This is a small group and there are students who will not make it into membership. It is always difficult to understand this when you’re nine or ten years old, and I always try to convey that it is not a personal thing if a student does not make it. If it were possible, I would not put any number limit on the group at all! Thank you for helping your child understand how auditions work!
Sincerely,

AUDITION INFORMATION:
- Any 3rd or 4th Grade student may audition. All students are considered equally, regardless of previous experience.
- To audition, students will be asked to sing two selections: a vocal warmup exercise while I play it on the piano, and a simple song of their choice (such as Happy Birthday).
- Audition dates and times will be announced after Christmas track out. You must contact me for an audition time. If these time slots cannot be made, please contact me and we will work something out to give your child the opportunity for an audition.
- Students coming to morning auditions can be dropped off in the carpool circle at their audition time, and come straight to Building 2. I will be sure they are not tardy for class. Parents do not need to be present for morning time slots.
- Parents of students coming to afternoon auditions should wait for their student unless that student is in WINGS. (I will send those students to WINGS as soon as they are finished with their audition.)
- Auditions will be held in the Music Room in Building 2, Room 204.
- Students are only required to sing for Mrs. Rothra, not in front of each other, unless they would like to audition together. Auditions are considered on an individual basis.
- Membership for Eagle Ensemble will be announced on the home page of this website www.ewamusic.weebly.com approximately one week after auditions are completed.
